I sit here at the table still sweaty from my workout with Jillian and my time on the elliptical. Loving the new shoes - they really help cushion my knees and ankles and treat my feet much better. If you are looking for an inexpensive pair of expensive shoes, you might look into New Balance.
I know I'm going to have to take my eating discipline to a different level if I'm going to see any major changes in this body. I am doing a good job of eating the right things, and a good balance of things. But I am going to have to make myself start doing better with eating at mealtimes instead of just grazing through the day, and I am going to have to stop eating sugar. It's easy to think that if something is natural or organic it's fine to eat, but sugar is still sugar and I am pretty sure that my body thinks it is allergic to sugar. I made some oatmeal raisin cookies with whole wheat white flour and steel-cut oats for a family reunion this past week. I popped a few during the cooking and by the next morning my face had broken out.
So that's my new way of looking at it. If you're allergic to something you avoid it, so I'm going to try hard to start avoiding sugar. I have other ways to sweeten things - Stevia is an all natural herb sweetener that works really well. Honey will sweeten anything. I know there are other things to try as well and I'm relieved, as I definitely have a sweet tooth.
So this week I do my best to cut out all regular sugar. The hardest thing to say goodbye to will be peanut butter.
Goals, anyone? Please post. I can't be the only one trying anything new!
My goal for this week is to go to bed earlier (by midnight) so that I can get up and exercise while the kids are eating breakfast. I want to work out 5 times a week and can only seem to get it done first thing in the morning or late at night. I'd rather do morning so it's out of the way for the day.
ReplyDeleteMy goal for the rest of JULY is to lose 4 pounds.
Cutting out sugar is tough but after the first week it's not so bad. There are lots of chocolate things out there that are made with artificial sweeteners. I use splenda for baking, truvia to sweeten hot drinks, & sweet n low to sweeten cold drinks.
Thanks for blogging about this. It keeps me motivated and encouraged. :)
what about making your own peanut butter?? i used to do that with my classes when i taught a healthy eating unit. i'm pretty sure it was just peanuts... i honestly don't remember.
ReplyDeletestevia rocks though. i keep a bottle of liquid stevia in my cupboard. :)
my goal this week is to work out two times. that's sad, but i'm having a tough time recovering from the craziness of last week.
i'm also hoping to get jillian's 30 day shred and my goal is to start that next week.
thanks for posting!
Hey, two Amys! Amy M - good goals! I stand in awe of anyone that can force themselves to get up in the morning to exercise. MacGyver does it as well. As for the sweeteners, I have discovered that any artificial sweetener that isn't a natural substance (Stevia is an herb)gives me an automatic migraine. Especially aspartame, but really all of them.
ReplyDeleteAmy K, I have made peanut butter with Hannah in homeschool. I didn't remember that until you mentioned it. It was peanuts and a little bit of oil in the food processor. I'll have to try that with some Stevia or honey and see if it works for me. :) Good goals, and I'll be glad to have a "Shred" buddy. :)
Just a little tidbit that I hope will be helpful:

Hey Dr. G - intresting info. Thanks for reading and posting, we needed the clarification.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify further, I wasn't saying I WAS allergic to sugar, just that I am going to go forward with that mindset in hopes that it makes me avoid it on a more regular basis, because I love it TOO much. I didn't write that clearly. It's probably a fact that it would make anyone break out if they overdid it.
Thanks again, my dear.
Just in case you don't know. turbinado sugar (sugar in the raw) is a natural sugar. It is not low calorie and metabolizes the same as white sugar except it is not refined and still has some of minerals in it. Might be something you want to try.
